West Perrine Chemical Drop-Off, October 3, 2026: What to Bring and Backup Sites

Updated:

If you’re clearing old paint, pool chemicals and personal papers out of a West Perrine home, plan for two possible outcomes on October 3: chemical disposal and document shredding. The county schedules both at the mobile event, but shredding depends on availability. If that service falls through, your chemicals and documents will need different backup plans.

October 3 at West Perrine: address and event hours

Miami-Dade’s free home chemical drop-off is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at West Perrine Trash and Recycling Center, 16651 SW 107th Avenue, Miami. It supplements two permanent chemical centers. Source: Miami-Dade County’s January 27, 2026 announcement.

Use 2 p.m. as the mobile event’s cutoff. West Perrine’s ordinary facility listing shows daily hours of 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; those longer hours do not extend the chemical event. This distinction matters if you check the county’s Trash and Recycling Center directory while planning your trip.

Recheck the county event page on Friday, October 2, and before leaving Saturday for any schedule, location or rule changes.

Who qualifies, and which Florida ID to bring

As of September 2026, the mobile event is free and open to all Miami-Dade County residents. Bring a valid Florida driver’s license or Florida identification card to verify your Miami-Dade address. Business and commercial use is excluded. These requirements appear on the county’s mobile-event page, checked September 28.

For recent transplants, check the address on your card before packing the car. If it still shows an old address, ask the county what documentation it will accept; the published event rules do not establish an alternative.

The all-resident event eligibility also differs from ordinary Trash and Recycling Center access, which the county limits to eligible residential waste-fee customers. Don’t apply that narrower everyday rule to this special event. See the regular facility eligibility requirements.

What to bring: paints, chemicals, batteries and electronics

The county’s 2026 event announcement lists these accepted materials:

Treat that as a sorting guide before loading. Keep questionable items on a separate written list so you can resolve their eligibility first.

What is excluded

The event excludes business- and government-generated waste, explosives, biohazardous waste, appliances and microwave ovens. Large propane tanks used for RVs, forklifts or fixed kitchen gas supplies are also excluded under the current event rules.

A microwave therefore does not qualify simply because other electronic equipment is accepted. Likewise, a household cleanout and waste generated by a business have different eligibility. Check the source of the waste as well as the item itself.

How to pack containers and label unknown chemicals

Follow the county’s chemical-container preparation requirements:

  1. Stand containers upright inside sturdy boxes.
  2. Secure every lid and cap.
  3. Put a leaking container inside a larger container with absorbent material, such as newspaper.
  4. Check each label. If the original is missing, add the contents or information you know. If you cannot identify it, mark it “UNKNOWN CHEMICALS.”

Make labeling part of the packing process, while you can still match each container to any information you have about it.

Document shredding: two boxes per person, if available

Miami-Dade’s October 3, 2026 West Perrine event offers free document shredding, subject to availability, with a limit of two bankers boxes or equivalent per person. Remove paper clips; exclude laminated paper and paper with plastic or wax coatings. Source: Miami-Dade event requirements, checked September 28, 2026.

Sort documents before departure so you can measure your load against the limit. If you have more, choose which eligible papers to bring and make another arrangement for the remainder.

If shredding is unavailable when you arrive, keep your documents with you. Completing the chemical drop-off does not require treating the paperwork as part of the same disposal task.

Missed the event? Chemical centers and the November 14 backup

Miami-Dade’s two permanent chemical centers are South Dade, 23707 SW 97th Avenue, Gate B, Homestead, and West Dade, 8801 NW 58th Street, Doral. Both list Wednesday–Sunday hours of 9 a.m.–5 p.m. for residential users; business waste is excluded. Source: Miami-Dade chemical-center directory, checked September 28, 2026.

For paint, pesticides and pool chemicals, select a dedicated Home Chemical Collection Center as your year-round fallback. The county’s disposal guide directs those materials to chemical centers. Some ordinary Trash and Recycling Centers accept particular materials, including electronics or used oil, but that does not establish general household-chemical acceptance.

Here is our fallback plan, calculated from the county’s posted dates and regular hours:

If this happensYour next step
You miss West Perrine’s 2 p.m. cutoff on October 3Check a permanent chemical center before driving. Its listed 5 p.m. closing is three hours later; allow time to reach it.
You miss Saturday entirelySunday, October 4, falls within the centers’ regular 9 a.m.–5 p.m. schedule.
You cannot go until Monday or TuesdayNeither day appears in their regular opening schedule. The next listed opening is Wednesday, October 7, at 9 a.m.

Those are chemical-disposal alternatives. The permanent centers’ published services do not establish ongoing document shredding, so don’t make a paperwork-only trip on that assumption.

The next scheduled combined event is Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 8 a.m.–2 p.m. at Sunset Kendall Trash and Recycling Center, 8000 SW 107th Avenue, Miami, according to the county’s January 27 schedule. Shredding remains subject to availability.

November 14 is 42 days—six weeks—after October 3. Our recommendation: use the permanent centers for eligible chemicals when convenient, and arrange document destruction separately if waiting six weeks does not suit your needs. Reverify the November event and shredding conditions before going.
